Synopsis of The Messenger
An American soldier struggles with an ethical dilemma when he becomes involved with a widow of a fallen officer
The Messenger is a terrific movie. You're going to have to take a lot of Kleenex, and you're going to have to hunker down to understand that this is the reason that movies probably should be made, beyond entertainment. It will enlighten you, it will touch you, it will make you think. It's a terrific cast headed by Dan Foster, who was the bad guy in 3:10 to Yuma. Woody Harrelson contributes his best performance ever. The story is about two men whose job it is to make condolence calls in war time. They, after all, are the first people to make contact with the family of fallen soldiers. The movie is about the effect this position has on them and everyone else. The acting is uniformly terrific. There are some vignettes with Steve Buscemi and Samantha Morton. Everybody in it is pitch-perfect. Bring a lot of Kleenex, and be prepared to cry and to think. It's a wonderful movie, it's a terrific companion piece with "The Hurt Locker", and a movie that should be seen by everybody. Five Stars.
