Amelia stars Hillary Swank, Richard Gere, and Ewan McGregor, and is obviously the story of Amelia Earhart. The problem is, I don't know how they take such an interesting story -- she was apparently bisexual, she was certainly the first woman to fly solo, she disappeared under mysterious circumstances -- and the only real sort of little frisson that you get from watching this movie is understand that the reason she probably died is some hapless sailor left the transmitter on all night. It ran out of power, so they couldn't track her. Richard Gere is surprisingly tender and lovely in this. Hillary Swank has really not much to do except you notice her freckles. I don't know, this movie somehow went very wrong and took all of the juice and spice -- maybe they were trying to do family version of Amelia Earhart, and I don't think she was PC. One star, never gets off the ground.
